Using filters is a powerful way to segment your audience and retrieve exactly the data you need. With zkipster Audience, you can filter your contact list to streamline you contact management and create segments of contacts with the same characteristics that are relevant for you.
For example, you can apply filters to create a segment of contacts who:
Work in the same organization
Are professionals from the same industry
Are based in the same region
And more...
Adding a Filter
Navigate to the "Contacts" list.
Click on the "Add Filter +" button.
A dropdown list will appear, showing all contact fields available in your account, including all existing custom fields.
4. Use the 'Search data' to type the name of the field you want to select.
5. Select a Filtering Condition - you can find out more about these in the section below.
6. Press 'Done' to apply the filter.
Pick a Filtering Condition
Once you select the field you want to filter by, for example 'Address (Primary) Country', you'll be prompted to pick a filtering condition from one of the following options:
1 . "Equals": Returns contacts where the selected field equals a specific value. Example: Find all contacts where the data on the Address Primary City field is equal to “London”.
2. "Not Equals": Finds contacts where the data from a selected field does not match a certain value.
Example: Contacts whose Address (Primary) Country is not “United States.”
3 . "Starts With": Finds contacts that have a value on the selected field that starts with a specific set of characters. Example: filter all contacts that the 'First Name' starts with 'C':
4. "Is Present": Returns contacts that have any value entered in the chosen field.
Example: All contacts with any dietary requirements listed in the Dietary Requirements custom field.
5. "Is Not Present": Filters contacts that have no value in the selected field.
Example: Contacts where Email (Primary) is blank or missing.
6. "Includes": Lets you select multiple values that can appear in the field. The 'Includes' option only is available for multiple choice fields, single choice fields or tags. Example: Contacts whose 'Tags' includes “Donor” or “VIP”.
7. "Does Not Include": Filters out contacts with any of the specified values in that field. Example: Exclude contacts with Tags ”Internal Staff":
8. "Contains": Finds contacts which the value of the selected field contains a specific data. Example: Contacts whose 'Address (Primary) City' field contains 'London'.
9. "Does not contain": Excludes contacts which the value of the selected field contains a specific data. Example: filter all contacts whose Organization's field does not contain 'XYZ':
10. Dates: When filtering contacts based on a field with a 'Date' format, the system will display options to allow you to perform a search based on a specific date, on dates passed more than X days ago, a date that passed exactly X days ago, after X date, between dates X and Y or before X date. Example: Find contacts created after the 1st of July 2025.
Filtering Contacts using Events Data
After you enabled the integration between zkipster Events and zkipster Audience and your Audience contact profiles are enriched with their events attendance data, you are able to filter contacts based on your past/current events data.
From the 'Add Filter +' dropdown, type 'Event' on the search bar to locate all Events based filters.
The 'Events' filters allow you to find contacts based on:
The name of the event(s).
The location of the event(s).
The date of the event(s).
The type of event.
Events attendance history.
Number of events the contacts were checked-in to.
Example: Find contacts that were checked-in on more than 5 events.
Adding Multiple Filters
You can refine your results even further by adding more than one filter. This comes in handy when looking up for contacts that match multiple criteria.
For example, you can use the 'Address Country' and 'Organization' fields to locate contacts based in the UK that work for a specific organization (e.g.'AI Enterprise'):
Follow the steps above to filter for United Kingdom.
Click "Add Filter +" again.
Select Organization as the second field.
Choose Equals, and input the name of the organization as the value.
Click "Done" to apply the filter.
You can create a compounded filter by combining up to 30 individual filters, and you can remove filters by clicking on the 'x' next to its name, or you can clear all filters at once by clicking ‘Clear Filters.’
Please note: When multiple filters are applied, they work cumulatively. For example, if you create a filter to display only contacts working in 'Organization A' and another filter to display only contacts in a specific role, the results will show candidates who meet both criteria simultaneously.
Once you filter down your contact list based on the criteria you defined, zkipster Audience allows you to save the results as a 'Segment', so you don't need to constantly apply the same set of filters from scratch in order to find the segment of contacts you are searching for.
Saved segments can be accessed anytime from the ‘Segments’ section on the left-hand menu. Read this article to learn more about segments.
On Custom Fields
You can create up to 100 custom fields and they can be used as filters. However, a custom field must have been created before you can use it to set up a filter. Refer to this article for a guide on creating custom fields.
Configuring how the search results are displayed
After creating and applying your filters to generate a segment, you can customize how the contacts in that segment are displayed (e.g., selecting which columns are to be displayed and their order of appearance). Refer to this article for a guide on configuring these display settings.
