How to Configure your zkipster Account to Collect Payments

Connect your account to Stripe to unlock payment collection in zkipster Events

Written by Murilo Aguiar

Before you can collect any payments in zkipster, whether through campaign emails, forms, or the zkipster Mobile App, you need to complete a one-time setup process that connects your zkipster account to Stripe. This is sometimes referred to as KYC (Know Your Customer) or Stripe onboarding.

This only needs to be done once per account. Once complete, you can enable payments across any of your events.

Onboarding Summary

The onboarding has three phases:

  1. zkipster setup: accept terms and select your business country

  2. Stripe KYC: verify your business identity through Stripe's onboarding flow

  3. Return to zkipster: review your account settings and start using Payments

What you'll need

  • Admin access to your zkipster account settings

  • Your business registration details (legal name, address, business structure, etc.)

  • The name and personal details of your business owner(s)

  • Your business bank account details (for payouts)

  • A Stripe account, or the ability to create one (it's free)

Note: If you already use Stripe with another platform, you can use the same Stripe login. zkipster will create a new, separate connected account specifically for your zkipster activity, it will not affect your existing Stripe accounts in any way.

Before You Start

Please note: Payments needs to be switched on for your account before you'll see the full setup flow described below. If you go to Account Settings → Payments and see a message that Payments isn't yet active for your account, click Request Access and our team will review and enable it for you. This usually doesn't take long, but it isn't instant, so if you're planning to collect payments for an upcoming event, we'd recommend requesting access as early as possible.

Phase 1: zkipster setup

1. Go to Account Settings from the top right of any zkipster page.

2. Click the Payments tab.

You'll see the Payments onboarding screen with zkipster's terms of service and a country selector. This is your starting point — no payment features are available until you complete this step, even if you already have an existing Stripe account.

3. Read and accept the zkipster Payments terms of service.

4. Select the country where your business is registered from the dropdown and click Continue.

Important: Choose your business country carefully as this cannot be changed later without resetting your entire Stripe onboarding. Stripe uses this country to determine which onboarding questions to ask, which currencies are available, and what verification documents are required.

If you select the wrong country, you will need to reset your Stripe onboarding and re-enter all information from scratch.

If your zkipster account is based in one country but your Stripe business is registered in another, select the country where your Stripe business is registered, not where your zkipster account is based.

For example: if your business is registered in the UK but you select France, you will not be able to connect your UK-registered Stripe business during onboarding.

Phase 2: Stripe KYC

After clicking Continue, you are taken into a Stripe-hosted onboarding flow. Everything you see from this point is managed by Stripe.

If you already have a Stripe account, you'll be prompted to log in. Stripe will then show you any businesses already associated with that account. You can select an existing business (which prefills most fields automatically) or create a new one.

During KYC, Stripe will ask for the following information. The exact fields vary by country, but typically include:

  • Business details - legal name, address, industry, website

  • Owner information - name, date of birth, and identity verification (you may be asked to upload a photo ID)

  • Bank account details - where your payouts will be sent

  • Statement descriptor - the name that will appear on your guests' bank statements when they make a payment

  • Customer support information - a phone number or email guests can contact if they have questions about a charge

Work through each section and submit when ready. Stripe will review your details and in most cases approval is near-instant. You will receive a confirmation email from Stripe when your account is active.

Phase 3: Return to zkipster

Once Stripe verification is complete, you'll be returned to the Payments area in your zkipster Account Settings. You'll now have access to the following tabs:

  • Overview: an itemised list of all transactions across your events, with reporting graphs

  • Payouts: view your Stripe balance and transfer funds to your external bank account or debit card

  • Account: view and update your Stripe account information

  • Tax: access your tax configuration if you have Stripe Tax enabled

  • Branding: links to branding settings managed in your Stripe dashboard

  • Payment methods: which payment methods are currently enabled on your account

Note: Some tabs (such as Account and Branding) require you to sign in to Stripe again when accessed. This is a Stripe security requirement and is expected behaviour.

At this point, your account is connected and ready. You can now enable payments for individual events.

If you need to reset your Stripe onboarding

If you selected the wrong country or need to start the Stripe onboarding from scratch, you can reset from the Payments tab in Account Settings.

Click Reset Stripe Onboarding to remove the connection between zkipster and your current Stripe account.

Please note: Resetting onboarding does not delete your Stripe account or affect any payments already processed. It only removes the connection between zkipster and Stripe. You will need to reconnect and re-enter your details to start collecting new payments. Any information entered during the previous onboarding will not be carried over.

After resetting, return to Account Settings → Payments to begin again from Phase 1 with the correct country.

FAQs on Stripe Onboarding

Do I need to create a new Stripe account? Not necessarily. If you already have a Stripe account, you can log in with your existing credentials during Phase 2. Stripe will create a new connected account specifically for zkipster transactions — your other Stripe activity is not affected.

What if my Stripe account is registered in a different country to the one I selected? The country you select in zkipster must match the country of the Stripe business account you want to use. If they don't match, you won't be able to proceed with that business account. Either select the correct country in zkipster before starting, or create a new Stripe business for the correct country.

Can multiple team members go through onboarding? Onboarding is completed once at the account level. Once done, all users with the appropriate permissions can access payment features. You don't need to repeat onboarding for each team member.

My Stripe account shows a warning or pending requirements — what should I do? If Stripe flags pending requirements, some payment features (such as accepting live card payments) may be limited until these are resolved. Go to your Stripe dashboard to review and complete any outstanding requirements.
