Supported Devices for Tap to Pay in zkipster

Find out which phones and tablets can collect payments on-site using the zkipster mobile app

Written by Murilo Aguiar

Tap to Pay allows you to collect card payments on-site using the zkipster mobile app — no external card reader required. However, this feature requires specific hardware that is only available on certain devices.

This article lists which devices are supported on iOS and Android.

iPhone (iOS)

Tap to Pay is supported on iPhone only. iPads do not have the necessary hardware (a specific NFC chip) to collect contactless payments and are not supported.

Requirements:

  • iPhone XS or later

  • iOS 18 or higher

If a team member tries to use Tap to Pay on an unsupported iPhone or on an iPad, they will see an error message in the app and be directed to this page.

Please note: iOS 18 was released in 2024. If a team member's phone meets the hardware requirement (iPhone XS or later) but is running an older iOS version, they will be prompted to update before they can use Tap to Pay.

Android

Tap to Pay on Android supports a wider range of devices. Most modern Android phones released from 2022 onwards are supported.

Tablets: Only a small number of Samsung tablets support Tap to Pay on Android. Most Android tablets — like most iPads — do not have the required hardware and will show an error when attempting to collect payments.

A full and up-to-date list of supported Android devices will be provided separately. If you are unsure whether a specific device is supported, please contact our support team.

What happens on an unsupported device

If a team member tries to collect a payment on an unsupported device, the zkipster app will display an error message explaining that the device does not support payment collection, and will provide a link to more information.

Unsupported devices can still:

  • View the guest list

  • Check guests in

  • View payment history on guest profiles

Only the ability to collect a new payment requires a supported device.

Using the same device for check-in and payments

Supported devices can be used for both check-in and payment collection at the same time. There is no need to use separate devices for each function.
