There are different ways to add new contacts to your zkipster Audience contact list:

This article focuses on importing contacts via a spreadsheet upload, but in order to ensure a seamless upload, you will need to first:

Once you have prepared your data, made sure your spreadsheet follows zkipster's formatting recommendation and defined the UID, it is time to import your contacts!

Importing Contacts via Spreadsheet

To start the importing of contacts via spreadsheet, open the 'Contacts' section of your Audience account and follow the steps below:

Step 1: Access the Import from File Screen

Click the orange Add Contact button and choose Import from File.

Step 2: Prepare Your Spreadsheet

You will be taken to the upload screen where you can drop your spreadsheet file. However, to avoid formatting issues and make your upload smoother:

  • Click on Download CSV or Download Excel to get the zkipster spreadsheet template.

  • We strongly recommend using this template, as it contains the correct column headers for default contact fields and any existing custom fields you have already created in Audience.

📤 Step 3: Upload Your File

Once your spreadsheet is correctly formatted:

  • Click Import Your Spreadsheet File.

  • Select your file to begin the upload process.

🔄 Step 4: Match Spreadsheet Columns with Audience Fields

Once your file is uploaded, you’ll enter the field matching screen.

Here’s what you will find:

  • A summary at the top of the screen will show how many new contacts will be created.

  • The left-hand side displays each of the columns from your spreadsheet.

  • The right-hand side displays the Audience contact fields where the data from the spreadsheet will be imported to.

✅ Automatic Matching

  • A green check mark on the right side of each field means that respective spreadsheet columns has been matched with a field in Audience.

  • If you used the template, the spreadsheet columns referring to default fields will match automatically.

🔧 Manual Matching

  • If you're using your own spreadsheet, if you have custom fields or if the columns and fields don't match automatically:

    • Use the dropdown menus under 'Audience Field' to manually match each column with the correct field (e.g., match "Phone" with the Phone field).

    • You can also choose to skip a column if you don’t want to import that data.

➕ Add New Custom Fields (Optional)

  • If your spreadsheet includes custom data not yet set up in your Audience:

    • Click Create New Field during the import process to create a new custom field on the spot.

🚀 Step 5: Finalize the Import

Once everything is correctly matched:

  • Click Import Contacts to begin the upload.

  • zkipster will import your spreadsheet and display a summary of the result.

📊 Step 6: Review the Import Results

After the upload, the 'Import From File Report' will be displayed:

  • You'll see how many contacts were created.

  • Any errors will be listed on this screen, together with the reason that triggered the error.

  • Use the 'Export Errors' dropdown menu to export a spreadsheet file with the data of the contacts that were not created due to an error. This makes it easier for you to correct the invalid data flagged by the system so you can reupload the corrected data afterwards.

✅ Quick Tips for a Smooth Import

  • Always use zkipster’s spreadsheet template when possible.

  • Double-check that headers match zkipster field names.

  • Create custom fields in advance or use the "Create New Field" option during upload.

  • Use the Validation Guide sheet (available on the spreadsheet template) to confirm field limits and formatting rules.
