Salesforce Activity Log and Troubleshooting Failed Exports

Use the Activity Log to see every Salesforce import and export, find out why a record failed, and fix it.

Written by Murilo Aguiar

Where to find the Activity Log

1. Go to Integration Hub and click the Salesforce card.

2. Click Activity Log.

The log shows every import and export run for your account, across all events, with:

• The operation (import or export) and its status

• The zkipster user who started it

• The event it ran in

• A summary message. Hover over a shortened message to see it in full.

You can filter the log by status and by operation.

Pro Tip: if several people or regions share one Salesforce connection, the Activity Log is your record of who ran each import and export. Salesforce itself only shows the connected integration user.

Downloading export details

For exports, you can download a detailed file. It lists each Salesforce record the export tried to create or update, with:

• The operation and Salesforce object, for example an update to a Campaign Member

• Whether it succeeded or failed

• The error message from Salesforce, word for word

• The Salesforce record ID, and whether a new record was created

The results and error messages in this file come directly from Salesforce.

If an import fails

You receive a separate email when an import finishes with errors. The run is also listed in the Activity Log with its status and summary message. The detailed download is only available for exports.

Why exports fail

Salesforce accounts are highly customisable. Salesforce does not tell zkipster in advance which fields are locked or required. It only rejects a record when zkipster tries to save it, and then explains why. This is the reason some records may fail even when your mapping looks correct.

What you see

What it means

How to fix it

An error such as INVALID_FIELD_FOR_INSERT_UPDATE: Unable to create/update fields: FirstName, LastName. Please check the security settings of these fields

The connected Salesforce user cannot edit those fields on that object.

Map the data to the Lead or Contact instead of the Campaign Member, or ask your Salesforce admin to give the connected user edit access to the field.

A required field is missing

Your Salesforce account requires a field that was not mapped. This may be a standard requirement or one your admin added.

Map the required field in the export, or ask your admin which fields are required.

A validation rule error

Your admin has set a rule, for example “First Name is required when Salutation is Mr”.

Make sure the guest data meets the rule, then export again.

Create new campaign members is locked (shown with a lock icon)

The Lead field setting has not been saved.

A warning that Campaign Members cannot be created

The Lead field chosen in Settings can no longer be used: it was deleted, its API name or type was changed, or the connected user lost edit access to it.

Select a new field in Settings and save.

Insufficient access on records

The connected user does not have access to that object.

Your Salesforce admin updates the user’s permission set.

Guests show as Sent (or another default status) in Salesforce after export

The Campaign has no Campaign Member Status matching the guest’s zkipster status, so Salesforce applied the Campaign’s default status. The export does not create statuses.

Add Unconfirmed, Confirmed, Declined and Checked-in as statuses on the Campaign, then export again with Campaign Member ticked and Update existing campaign members selected.

Please note: failed records do not stop the rest of the export. Records that Salesforce accepted are saved, so check the download before running the export again.

Running the export again does not duplicate Campaign Members. Once a Campaign Member is created, zkipster keeps the link to it, so the next export does not create it again. The one exception: if an earlier export created a guest’s Lead but not their Campaign Member, running the export again creates a new Lead. In that case, check Salesforce for duplicate Leads.

If the connection stops working

Any Salesforce admin can revoke zkipster’s access in Setup > Connected Apps OAuth Usage, under Workato connector (or your own app name if you connected with JWT). A deactivated Salesforce user also breaks the connection.

If the connection has expired or been removed, zkipster shows a message that Salesforce isn’t connected when you start an import or export, with a button to go to Integration Hub.

To reconnect, go to Integration Hub, click the Salesforce card, then Configure integration, and connect again on the Setup tab. To connect as a different Salesforce user, disconnect on the Setup tab first, then connect again as the other user.
